The Links Group supports UKTI sport trade mission to Qatar

With the peninsula state of Qatar developing USD140 billion worth of major projects in preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the country is in the midst of a construction boom which requires bringing in external world-class expertise to achieve its many goals. Specialists from the sports and leisure sectors are of particular demand. Those British companies that supported the recent London Olympics are particularly well placed to meet this demand. As such UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) recently organised a two-day trade mission to introduce an excellent and varied group of UK companies with expertise in delivering major sporting events to the Qatari market.

The Links Group was delighted to support the UKTI trade mission to explain more about the lucrative business opportunities available in the country, the various business licences for establishing a commercial presence and an overview of how our services can support their expansion to the country.

As part of the trade mission programme, the delegates met with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (FIFA World Cup 2022 organising committee), key local stakeholders including Qatar Olympic Committee, Aspire Foundation, Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Public Works Authority and Astad (Qatar Foundation). Site visits were also organised to stadia and venues hosting the sports activities in Qatar.

A networking reception was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel and was attended by more than 100 guests including the UK delegates and key local Qatari organisations and companies. Nicholas Hopton, British Ambassador in Qatar, addressed guests. We were delighted to sponsor this reception and address the guests. We are encouraged by the positive feedback we received from the UK companies who expressed their interest in expanding to Qatar to support the country in hosting the world’s most popular sporting event.
