United Nations Women Office to open in Abu Dhabi

On the 17th of October, a new regional liaison office for UN Women will open in Abu Dhabi as a hub for GCC countries. Although historically the UAE has been perceived as a difficult place for women to do business in, the current government has placed much effort on enhancing the UAE’s ranking in global reports on gender equality.

Due to the visionary leadership of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairperson of the General Women’s Union, the UN Women – UAE partnership has reached a new level with the signing of this agreement opening the way for a strengthened collaboration to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women.

We would like to congratulate the UAE leadership on this success, a testament to its vision to continue to empower women. Gender equality is enshrined in the nation’s constitution – encouraging women to prove themselves and achieve, and to contribute to the country’s progress and development.
