As it prepares to Host Expo 2020, Dubai is the top business location for British companies, whether large or small. That was the message from the “Dynamic Dubai: Gateway to Growing your Business” event that took place on 16th June hosted by The Links Group together with London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).
Over 80 delegates accepted the invitation to attend the conference that was designed for British companies that are considering Dubai as part of their internationalisation strategies. John Martin St Valery, founding partner of the Links Group, highlighted how the economic growth plans for Dubai and first class business facilities has seen it become the business hub of the Middle East. Situated within eight flying hours of two-thirds of the world’s population, Dubai has set up a global hub that can connect virtually any two cities in the world with just one stop.
After presentations from DTCM, Royal Brunei Airlines, Emaar hospitality group and Links, the event broke up into small roundtable discussions together with representatives from UKTI, HSBC and The Links Group. These discussions were a good opportunity for the delegates to quiz the speakers on the details of how their companies could benefit from having a local presence in the emirate and the best options available to set up there.
Over 200,000 new jobs are expected to be created in the next few years across a range of sectors including marketing, hospitality, Islamic finance and green technologies. Together with a substantial increase in the number of visitors, the demand and potential for British businesses is expected to increase substantially.
According to UK Trade and Investment, the UAE is the UK’s largest export market in the Middle East, and 12th biggest globally, with UK-UAE bilateral trade in goods and services for 2012 reaching £10.6 billion, an overall increase of 9.3 per cent on 2011. In the first nine months of 2013 exports of goods from the UK to the UAE were up 11 per cent on the same period in 2012.
With close ties with UKTI, Dubai FDI and the UAE Embassy, The Links Group can offer companies wishing to establish a base in Dubai unrivaled expertise, experience and local contacts in that jurisdiction.
